03

Born of War is not merely a documentary; it is a reckoning with memory, identity, and the enduring cost of service. Told through a cinematic lens both intimate and unflinching, it follows the story of the Welsh Guards—men shaped by discipline, bonded through hardship, and defined by moments that few outside their ranks will ever fully comprehend.

This is a film about more than conflict. It is about the quiet weight carried long after the noise has faded. Through personal testimony, archival depth, and evocative imagery, Born of War draws back the curtain on what it truly means to serve—not just in the heat of battle, but in the long shadows that follow. The Welsh Guards are not presented as distant figures of history, but as individuals—sons, brothers, fathers—whose lives have been indelibly marked by duty.

There is a distinctly British sensibility at its heart: restrained, resolute, and profoundly human. It does not shout for attention; instead, it commands it through honesty. The film understands that courage is not always loud, nor is sacrifice always visible. Sometimes it resides in endurance, in resilience, in carrying on.

Yet Born of War is not solely for those who have worn the uniform. It is for anyone who has ever questioned the true cost of protection, who has paused at a memorial and wondered about the lives behind the names, who seeks to understand rather than simply observe. It bridges the divide between civilian and soldier, inviting audiences to step closer, to listen, and to reflect.

In a time where stories are often fleeting, this one insists on being felt. It reminds us that the legacy of service does not end when the uniform is folded away. It lives on—in families, in communities, and in the quiet moments where memory lingers.

Born of War matters because it preserves truth. It honours without glorifying, reveals without exploiting, and connects without dividing. It is, at its core, a testament—to those who served, those who sacrificed, those who stood in defence of others—and to the shared humanity that binds us all.

Below are some donation options to help get this film made.

“The testimony of the old soldiers – hardly more than boys when they were serving – is piercingly touching and gripping: almost unbearably moving. This is a film that should be watched by all ages as a celebration of bravery and endurance”

Dame Joanna Lumley
